Mint .. for cocktail or cooking? - for both! š
Updated: May 17, 2023
In our garden, in the courtyard of the house, herbs and vegetables are grown, as well as some fruits that guests can consume without permission. We tend this garden every year so guests can pick fresh tomatoes or cherry tomatoes and see how it really looks like a growing plant. We are aware that our villa is in nature and many of you who visit us have never seen any plant other than its fruits in a mall. how do we know After the guest leaves, in the house of the shopping center in Makarska we find a pot of mint, and around the villa, it grows freely in several places, wild mint, but also tame (the ones from the shopping center). Guests don't realize it, but with mint for cocktails, they rush to shop, because without mint there is no favorite cocktail, nor enjoyment by the pool, for example with an ice-cold mojito.
Also, our traditional favorite spice is fragrant basil, then rosemary, oregano, thyme, lavender, sage, wormwood, celery, and parsley, and it's found in our garden and in spring onions :-).
Of the fruits, there are also fragrant strawberries, figs, grapes, cherries, and young kiwi plants are being prepared for fruit (maybe next year).
Given the seasonality of the listed fruits, you won't find them all at once (unless you visit us in all seasons :-)), but you will certainly find herbs in our garden in three of the four seasons.
Although our garden is very small, we are proud of it, because only the locals (and those who have tried it) know how much effort and sweat it takes to turn a piece of rocky and dry land into farmland, and how much care and water to do it. The same plants live, bloom, give birth, and survive the Biokovo Bora. I'll tell you a secret. We live in the neighborhood and have a bigger garden, but it's not for guests unless you're really good seeeeer :-). Eggplant, peppers, cucumber, and watermelon... how does that sound to you? I dare you to be kind and also allow access to our private garden next door.
Not forgetting the inevitable olive groves that Dalmatia abounds in and from which high-quality olive oil is produced, perhaps the best in Europe (don't be angry, you're from other Croatian regions and other Mediterranean countries), but it's home. made! If you write your blog, feel free to challenge me with olive oil and olives.
